Located at about 10 km from the mainland, the island has volcanic origins. Covering an area of 46,3 square km, it is divided into 6 municipalities: Ischia Porto, Casamicciola Terme, Lacco Ameno, Forio, Serrara Fontana, Barano. Predominantly hilly, with a peak of 788 m. - Monte Epomeo -, it is rrich in natural springs; it coasts are indented, with many small bays and enchanting ports.
